Rachel's 2012 Watch List - December

Please allow me a few minutes to whine. This was suppose to be a super happy post about how I kept up with all of my film watching and how I managed an average of at least one movie a day (which I did actually achieve). Alas, I've had a crappy week.

On Christmas evening, the ice started coming down...for hours...followed by 9-10 inches of snow. This is pretty unheard of in central Arkansas. We lost power just after 11:00 p.m. and as of 8:00 a.m. this morning (6 days later) it's still not back, because the rest of the city, and surrounding cities, lost it too. Being in the South, we're just simply not prepared for this type of problem.

Though we've had wonderful family (who didn't lose power) willing to take us in so we didn't freeze and starve to death, it's still a frustrating situation, especially being 7+ months pregnant with an (almost) 4-year-old. I was suppose to be off work today, but came in just to avoid going insane.

With most of the city being without electricity, the movie theaters haven't been a high priority to restore. So the few times I had a window to check out Django Unchained, Les Miserables or The Hobbit, there wasn't an available movie screen. This does not make me happy.

So this post isn't as celebratory as I had planned, but here's the last month of my film watching for 2012. What a shitty way to end what was otherwise a very good year.

12/1
Go (R) - Christmas...rave style.

12/2 - 12/8
Wreck-It Ralph (R) - Because it was so damn cute and only $5 to see it again on a Sunday morning.
Miracle on 34th Street - A decent first two-thirds. Falls off in the neverending courtroom scenes.
Arthur Christmas - Clever concept, but not a clever script.
The Dark Knight Rises (R) - I followed it better the second time. And I LOVE Bane.
Romeo + Juliet (R) - One of those lovely surprises when you forgot you bought the Blu-Ray months ago and find it on the shelf one night when deciding what to watch.

12/9 - 12/15
Gremlins (R) - Still waiting on Santa to deliver my Mogwai.
Gremlins 2: The New Batch (R) - Despite It's a Wonderful Life can be seen playing on a television in one scene, this is not a Christmas movie.
The Amazing Spider-Man - Great cast...too bad about the rest of the film.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter - At least I got around to one of this year's Lincoln films.

12/16 - 12/22
American Reunion - Worse than that wedding one, despite everyone coming back for it.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (R) - "A talking monkey, yeah, yeah. Came here from the future. Ugly sucker. Only says 'ficus'."
John Carter - Hated it after 10 minutes. It only got worse after that.
Mirror Mirror - Only took me a week to get through it.
The Queen (R) - I don't think Michael Sheen gets enough love. Of course doing Twilight movies doesn't help, but still.
Die Hard (R) - Tis the season...

12/23 - 12/29
Love Actually (R) - Continuing our Christmas Eve Eve tradition.
Scrooged (R) - Now it's Christmas!
The LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring (R) - Now that we've watched the trilogy 2 years in a row...
The LOTR: The Two Towers (R) - can we consider this our Christmas Day tradition?
The LOTR: The Return of the King (R) - At least we got started early enough to finish before we lost power.
Killer Joe - So glad I don't eat fried chicken, otherwise it'd be ruined for me right about now.

12/30 - 12/31
NOTHING, BECAUSE MOTHER NATURE IS A FILTHY SELFISH WHORE!!!
Django Unchained - Of course I freaking loved it. And I will love it even more when I'm not 7+ months pregnant.

EDIT: Luck doubly shined upon us this evening as we got to catch a late matinee of Django Unchained after work AND our electricity was finally restored at home after six very dark days. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

2012 TALLY:
First Time - 244 245
Rewatched - 129
Total - 373 374

  1. I'm sorry about the power, but at least you didn't freeze or starve or go into labor. Hoping 2013 starts (and ends) better. At least we'll get a Zoe out of it!
