Sims Screenshots #21

Andy the Time Lord jumped in for some Pulp Fiction, which was apparently far easier than I anticipated:

Come and get it:

    1. Almost did that one once, but never got around to it. Maybe one of these days.

    2. How do you actually do them? They're really good.

    3. Thanks, Will! I use Photoshop quite a bit to get things just as I want them. I normally piece the pictures together, like today's I did the background first, then did the Natalie Portman character separately, then the Clive Owen character, then mashed all three together in Photoshop to get them in the right places. For instance, all sims that are the same age are the same height, but since Clive is much taller than Natalie, I had to position his sim character to make up the height difference.

Last week's was more difficult because I had to set up the background, then add Tim Roth. The hardest part is literally waiting for the sims to give me the right expression or pose, because most of that I can't control.

Also there are some actions or poses that cannot be manipulated in Sims at all, so I have to slowly piece them together. The Robert Patrick sim crossing his arms in #18 is an example. The Jonah Hill in #14 was actually two separate halves of body stitched together later. It all just depends on what I can fake outside of the game. I've had to give up on some because I just couldn't pull it off.

  3. Thanks for the explanation Rachel, it sounds pretty time consuming and a tad complicated - how do you choose the individual scenes? BTW is that how Jonah Hill lost all his weight - having two halves of a body stitched together….

    1. Sometimes inspiration hits while I'm watching a movie, but other times I have to stare blankly at my dvd collection until something comes to me.

It has to be something I could pull off in the realm of Sims. For example, smoking and violence, especially weapons, don't exist in the game, so anything involving those are out. I also try to make sure it's not too complicated to create, like something that's going to have a busy background or a big crowd, so most city street scenes can't be done. And overly stylized period pieces are out of the question.

I like to keep it to as few characters as possible, like 3 and under. A huge chunk of time is spent on creating the characters and trying to get them to resemble the real deal enough for someone to guess.

I try to keep the difficulty level varied. I don't want them all to be so difficult it takes days before someone gets it right, but same for having them too easy.

Above all, it depends on my mood. If I start earlier in the week I'm more likely to have a more complex scene that I can spend a little extra time on to perfect. But if it's Friday night/Saturday morning and I'm staring at a blank screen, I'm going to make it as easy on myself has possible.
