Oz, The Great and Powerful - This is the only movie opening in wide release this week, but there are a few others that I've at least heard of also opening. Oz stars James Franco, in a less than ebullient con man role, who arrives in Oz to fullfil a prophesy that will save them. They've matched a lot of the structure of the 1939 film, but it still looks like a beautiful film with some bad-ass witches: Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis, and Rachel Weisz. Can't wait to see this!
In limited release:
The ABCs of Death - This looks like something I likely wouldn't enjoy but I find the concept fascinating. It reminds me of the Edward Gorey Gashlycrumb Tinies - "A is for Amy who fell down the stairs, B is for Basil assaulted by bears." Someone let me know how it is.
Dead Man Down - This one actually stars people I've heard of - Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace. The concept even sounds good - gangsters and bad-ass women.
