New Releases: 9/21/12

Dredd - I've heard this a movie based on the same source material as Stallone's Judge Dredd.  It's also in 3D.  If any movie had a chance to make a good use of it, this might be it - dystopian world, dark colors, etc. could make an interesting 3D film.  I'll wait for the DVD.

End of Watch - This was high on my list of TIFF choices, but as it opens this week, I decided not to bother wasting a TIFF ticket on it.  Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña are good cops who don't turn in all the money they confiscate one day.  On the fence.

The House at the End of the Street - The title alone makes me think it's a horror movie, but starring Jennifer Lawrence (who must have worked every hour of every day for a year for all the movies she's in this year), it might fall closer to the thriller type of film about people who move in next door to a haunted house. No. Just No.

Trouble with the Curve - I'm guessing Eastwood won't be talking to an empty chair during this movie, but I'm not sure if that will help or hurt this movie.  Amy Adams plays his estranged daughter, a fellow baseball scout.  John Goodman (who was AWESOME in Argo) is a fellow baseball fanatic, and I'm sure Justin Timberlake is her love interest.  I will not pay money to see this, but perhaps on TV someday.

  1. House at the End of the Street is much more thriller than horror. And the house isn't haunted at all, so no supernatural element to it. Essentially, it's one you could easily handle, but I urge you not to, because it's really bad.

  2. Yeah, I pretty much expected to skip it.
