New Releases: 6/29/12

Magic Mike - Channing Tatum makes this a movie I'm pretty sure I won't want to see in theaters - the fact that it's based on his real life past makes me kind of sad.  But it's about male strippers.  And they chose REALLY hot actors to play the strippers - Matt Bomer, Alex Pettyfer, and, yes, Matthew McConauhey.  I sense the story won't be great, honestly, how could it, but yes, I'll definitely see it.
Medea's Witness Protection - I can't believe I'm saying this after all the previous Medea films that I wouldn't possibly pay money to see, but the trailer with Eugene Levy and Denise Richards looks like such a trainwreck and yet it was really funny, that I almost want to see it.  I will not pay money to see this, but perhaps on TV someday.
Ted - This trend of stuffed animals coming to life and talking ("Wildfred" on FX is similar, most people see a real dog, but Elijah Wood sees a man in dog suit who talks dirty).  I find the concept really creepy - I don't know why.  And watching the stuffed teddy bear humping the Target checkout in the trailer is pretty offputting.  However, if done well, this could be really funny.  On the fence.

  1. I saw Magic Mike on Friday night, and the show was sold out (after being moved to a larger theater) and there were at most 15-20 guys there. Surprisingly, I thought the film was pretty good.

I saw Ted today, and aside from the older woman who brought 2 very young children to the film (and left 5 mins into it) the audience, myself included, was laughing non-stop throughout.

  2. Hey Joe, I'm hearing lots of good things about Magic Mike. I'm hoping to put together a theater marathon to catch up on everything I've missed in the past month, but that will probably be on the list.
