I can guarantee I'll be showing this movie in one of my classes someday - there's nothing like seeing animals in their natural habitat to inspire students. If you have any interest in taking your kids, go this week. The proceeds from the first week's earnings will go to the Jane Goodall Institute, which helps save wild chimps. Oh, and I heard Jane Goodall tell John Stewart that the chimps survive, so no fear about watching this through your fingers (or is that just me?).
Seriously? ANOTHER Nicholas Sparks' film? Zac Efron goes searching for a woman whose picture was his lucky charm during his tours in Iraq. Sounds like stalking to me. I'm guessing she'll either have an illness or someone will die before the end of the film, making us cry. I'm sure I'll see this someday (don't tell me you're surprised) but I won't pay for it.
Think Like a Man
I find the title insulting, but perhaps I need to see the movie to understand how and why these women should think like a man. I've done just fine thinking like a woman. So no, I won't be seeing this either.
After my little documentary exploration last year, I've come to the conclusion that docs about animals in their natural habitat are the only ones I like. Humans in their natural habitat just suck.

DeleteI like that the Chimpanzee trailer has a Switchfoot song in it, but otherwise I wasn't planning to see it in theaters. I might see it on tv or video someday though. I too did see the Jon Stewart interview where Jane Goodall freely gave out that detail upon Stewart's request.
ReplyDeleteI feel like there's a bit of oversaturation going on with Nicholas Sparks, but then again, I'm not the target demographic, so perhaps those movies are released only as often as the audience wants.
I'm not too interested in Think Like a Man either, but from what I gather based on the talk show interviews I've seen where actors talk about the film, it's based on a Steve Harvey book called Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man which advises women on how men think. I don't think it's meant to make women think differently, just to help them understand how the male mind works when it comes to relationships.
I totally agree about Nicholas Sparks. You can create those books annually, but making the same movie over and over again? Probably not.
DeleteI initially was just going to be funny about the Think Like a Man (and since it made a ton of money, I'm obviously in the minority), but when I thought about the implications of the title, rather than the intention, I got pretty offended. I like Steve Harvey, so this might have just been a case of trying to force an itty bitty controversy with just the title.
Zac Efron needs a career makeover, stat! WTH is he doing? Oh, that's right - he's making 17 Again appear epic by comparison...
